Health experts have issued a dire warning for people with heart and respiratory diseases as winter sets in. The cold, dry air and low temperatures prevalent during this season pose significant risks to these individuals. Professor Aditya Kapoor from the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences emphasizes that these weather conditions can worsen asthma symptoms and raise the likelihood of heart attacks and strokes.

Furthermore, winter is well-known for an increase in cardiac events, with more people experiencing heart attacks during the final week of December than at any other time. The cold weather prompts a narrowing of blood vessels, which in turn leads to higher blood pressure and places a greater strain on the heart.

This scenario poses a particular risk to individuals with coronary artery disease, as it can lead to arterial blockages. Even in regions with milder climates, there is a 33% increase in heart attack fatalities in December and January compared to the period between June and September.
